What should I consider when observing and talking to the people at a child care program?

When you visit, watch how caregivers interact with your child and other children. Do the teachers speak to the children in a calm, respectful and positive tone? There should be enough adults to work with a group and to care for individual children's needs. Ask questions of the director of the program. Do the children appear happy and actively engaged? Is the space comfortable and well equipped? Can the teacher/director explain what activities are offered and how they are designed to help children learn and develop? For more questions please refer to our Child Care Checklist.
